A boat carrying seven people struck the Townsends Inlet Bridge and sunk at the Avalon Yacht Club Tuesday, in a report from the Coast Guard. A spokesperson says the Coast Guard was dispatched to the location after the accident which happened at approximately 11pm Monday night, according to online reports. All the people were removed safely from the 52-foot Viking vessel, but the damage caused the boat to rest on it’s side as it took on water near a dock. Commercial divers and engineers inspected and repaired damage to the bridge, causing a temporary closure of the waterway early Tuesday. This is the second time in less than a year that the bridge was struck by boat traffic.
