The St. Bede Bruins had to battle back from a big game-opening deficit to gain a 79-67 win over the Bureau Valley Storm in boys varsity basketball action Friday night.
The Storm jumped out to a 9-0 lead before St. Bede used a 12-2 run to take a one point lead but BV managed to hold onto the lead 15-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Storm built their lead back up to 22-16 midway through the second quarter before St. Bede closed the quarter strong to lead 34-33 at halftime. The third quarter belonged to the Bruins as they outscored BV 28-17 to lead 62-50 going into the final quarter. Each team scored 17 points in the fourth quarter as St. Bede took the double-digit win.
The Bruins were led in scoring by Paul Hart's 37 points and Gunner Jauch's 24. The Storm had three players in double figures with Carter Salisbury's 26 points, Dalton Dean's 14 and Adam Johnson's 11.
St. Bede also won the sophomore matchup 40-26.
