Camden Man Arrested After Crashing Vehicle Into Barn

MACOMB, IL – A Camden man was arrested Tuesday evening after authorities attempted a traffic stop following witnessing him driving over 100 miles per hour.

According to reports, McDonough County Sheriff’s Deputies witnessed a tan Buick LeSabre traveling over 100 miles per hour on westbound Bellingham Road in rural Bethel Township. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield, eventually crashing into a barn at the intersection of East 800th St and Bellingham Road. The car caught fire soon after but was extinguished by Colchester Fire, who arrived on scene.

The driver, James K. Johnson, 65, of Camden, IL, was treated by Colchester Fire on scene, and was not injured. Johnson was taken into custody, and lodged in the McDonough County Jail with $300,000 bond and 10% to apply.

He has been charged with Speeding, Aggravated Driving Revoked, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs, Possession of Methamphetamine 5-15 grams, and Operating a Vehicle without Insurance.
