City of Kewanee Officially Enters HGTV Home Town Takeover Contest

The City of Kewanee is officially entered to be part of the HGTV series Hometown Takeover. Mayor Gary Moore confirmed to WKEI on Wednesday that the City of Kewanee with the aid of Joy Hernandez, has submitted a video entrty to the contest which will bring HGTV stars Ben and Erin Napier to a small town to film a six episode special called Home Town Takeover. Mayor Gary Moore released a statement to WKEI telling us how the idea for an entry into the contest came about and what the entry looks like… 

 

"Several weeks ago my daughter, Stephanie, ran across an ad online from HGTV. They are holding a contest; HGTV Hometown Take Over. Ben and Erin Napier of HGTV's Home Town series, were accepting applications to come to the lucky winners hometown and "take over." Making renovations and beautifying the winning community. The contest was open to any community in the United States with a populationof 40,000 or less. I am proud to announce, Kewanee has entered the contest with a video of our own. Councilman Steve Faber's step-daughter, Joy Hernandez, put together a very impressive video and made the submission on behalf of Kewanee. According to the rules of the contest, that video cannot be shared at this time. I have no idea how far we will get in the selection process, but our chances are as good as any other community. I am very proud of the Kewanee entry." 

 

 

If Kewanee is chosen for Home Town Takeover it will be featured in the six episode series which would air on HGTV in 2021. Entries into the contest have closed as of February 4th 2020. There is no word when HGTV will announce the winning town which. The new season of Home Town with Ben and Erin Napier launched in January and continues on HGTV.
