In a message posted online in December, Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan revealed that the band had recorded a new album, and now full details about the project have been unveiled on a newly launched website.
The album, a follow-up to 2017’s InFinite, is titled Whoosh! and will be released on June 12.
As with InFinite and 2013’s NOW What?!, Deep Purple recorded Whoosh! with veteran producer Bob Ezrin. The album, the band’s 21st studio effort, is described as “the most versatile” of the three albums on which they collaborated with Ezrin.
A statement notes that Deep Purple “stretched out in all directions” creatively while making Whoosh!, which features some songs that find the veteran rockers “voicing their resentment about the current situation of the world and addressing all generations.”
“We’ve included everything that made the whole band smile, including Bob Ezrin,” says guitarist Steve Morse of Whoosh! “We’ve always enjoyed making music and having the incredible luxury of a loyal audience.”
Whoosh! is available for pre-order now at Deep Purple’s official online store as a CD/DVD mediabook package, a two-LP set and a deluxe box set. Limited edition colored-vinyl versions of the album also will be available, as will special bundles featuring a Whoosh! t-shirt.
You can check out a series of short videos featuring Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover and Ezrin chatting about Whoosh!, and the band’s long history, on the group’s official Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Deep Purple has upcoming dozens of concerts lined up, starting with a March 14 at the Hell & Heaven Metal Fest in Mexico City. Most of the confirmed shows are in Europe. Visit DeepPurple.com to check out the band’s full schedule.
