An Illinois state representative wants to allow residents for whom sunlight can trigger painful migraines due to brain trauma to tint all of their vehicle's glass surfaces.
Under existing law, it’s illegal to apply window tint to the driver side window or entire front windshield unless the primary operator of the vehicle has a disease that makes sun exposure damaging to the skin. The law also specifically says photosensitivity isn’t enough for a person to tint all of their windows.
Rockford Democrat Maurice West’s legislation would change that.
He says law enforcement officers don’t want to approach a car whose windows are completely tinted so knowing about the driver’s condition before they leave their squad car will help.
A constituent of West’s district who has light sensitivity due to combat-related brain trauma brought up the issue.
