ISP Investigating Inmate Death After Altercation

MACOMB, IL – An altercation between inmates in the McDonough County Jail resulted in the death of one male inmate.

According to a press release issued by McDonough County Sheriff Nicholas M. Petitgout, the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office requested an investigation by the Illinois State Police Zone 4 into an in-custody death.

Initial reports have indicated that a male inmate died as a result of injuries sustained during an altercation with another male inmate. The injured was taken to McDonough District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The McDonough County Coroner’s Office, McDonough County States Attorneys Office, and the Illinois State Police Zone 4 are investigating this matter,
