ISP Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting During Domestic Violence Arrest

BUSHNELL, IL – A Bushnell man was arrested Thursday afternoon after an arrest attempt for aggravated domestic battery led to an office discharging their firearm.

According to reports, McDonough County deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of North Washington Street around 1:44 p.m. on Thursday for calls of aggravated domestic assault.

When police attempted to take Jesse R. Pickrel, 32, of Bushnell, into custody, he reportedly came at the deputy while brandishing an axe. Police said that the deputy fired multiple rounds at Pickrel, who fled the scene but was later apprehended and detained in the McDonough County Jail.

Neither Pickrel nor the deputy were injured.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
