Introduction to Hospitality, beginning next month at Illinois Valley Community College, can be taken as a stand-alone course or as part of a new hospitality certificate.
The 15-session course, HOS-1200-300, meets in Room E231 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays March 17 through May 5 and includes an orientation to the service sector; food, beverage and lodging information; and quality service skills.
“The course will expose students to career pathways in hospitality with emphasis on the business aspects of the jobs to include customer service, ethics, quality and management,” said IVCC Director of Continuing Education and Business Services Jennifer Scheri.
“With the steady increase in tourism across the Illinois Valley, a career in hospitality is now a viable option,” Scheri said.
“This is our response to the local hospitality industry,” she added. “It exposes students to various careers and equips them with the customer service and management skills they need to advance.”
The course can be the first of a new four-course, 12-credit hospitality certificate featuring introductory business and marketing courses and Principles of Management.
IVCC called upon an advisory committee of industry professionals to play a major role in developing the intro course and certificate. To register, call records at (815) 224-0447.
