New Kewanee City Engineer Scott Hinton is wasting no time getting his hands dirty in his position. No sooner had Hinton accepted the job of City Engineer in for the City of Kewanee, after more than a decade as Moline City Engineer, Mr Hinton was at the waste water treatment plant in Kewanee and beginning the process of examining what could have been a major emergency. At Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting, with input from Mr Hinton, the Council voted 5 to 0 in favor of approving a contract with Quad Cities Directional Boring for $87,000 to begin work on a project that will place a new pipe to replace one that had begun to leak. The new pipe will be made of plastic and rather than having been bent to go over the creek in the area, the new pipe will be above ground and straight from one point to the next to increase efficiency. 

Quad Cities Directional Boring was on the agenda for last night's meeting and their contract for the Boring portion of the work to be done was approved. Other aspects of the job will be completed by Dooley Brothers and Ratliff Brothers, local contractors who will be working with the City Engineer on the project. City Engineer Hinton discussed the cost of the total job at last night's meeting… 

With the work that has already gone into the project, the total cost once the emergency repairs are completed should come in at around $175,000.
