In an appearance on Wednesday's edition of People to People, Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore responded to comments made by Councilman Mike Yaklich at Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting. In his portion of Council Communications on Monday night, Councilman Yaklich stated "Kewanee City Government is currently performing at a dysfunctional level with regards to finances." The Councilman continued, aiming his comments at City Manager Gary Bradley and stating pointedly in regard to City finances "1 Our City Manager doesn't know the answers or 2 our City Manager doesn't want us to know the answers." In his People to People appearance, Mayor Moore defended City Manager Gary Bradley and stated that he did not agree that the City government was dysfunctional. Mayor Moore then called for an end to what the Mayor characterized as 'bullying' of the City Manager, Department heads and fellow Council members by Councilman Yaklich… 

 

Addressing the specific concerns raised by Councilman Yaklich on Monday night, Mayor Gary Moore addressed the City of Kewanee financial audit which has been held up due to ongoing issues with a computer program, issues the Mayor claims have been going on for quite some time… 

 

Mayor Moore tells WKEI that he agreed with Councilman Yaklich regarding receiving more detailed reports on a more regular basis regarding City of Kewanee finances while adding that he keeps up with the financial data by going to see the City Manager regularly at Kewanee City Hall and asking for information… 

 

Responding to another of Councilman Yaklich's concerns, the waste water treatment plant sludge, and whether it will be given to farmers to be spread in the spring to keep the lagoon at a manageable level, Mayor Moore assured that meetings with farmers to take the sludge are set to take place and that the spreading will be done in the Spring as planned.
