Kewanee Mayor Releases Statement on the Passing of Former Kewanee Fire Chief

Last week, former Kewanee Fire Chief, Don Karau Jr, passed away, he was 75 years old. Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore was asked for comment on the passing of the former Chief, whom the Mayor had known during his time as a member of the Kewanee Police Department…

"I had the privilege of working across the hall from Don for many years before he retired. I feel I was most privileged to call him a friend. No matter where our paths crossed he always made me feel like he was happy to see me. His greetings were always accompanied with a large smile. He was a true friend and I will miss greatly. Men like Don come around only once in a great while. He was bigger than life, and one of the most caring, kind hearted, and fairest men I have ever known."

Don Karau Jr will be laid to rest this week at the Mt Olivet Cemetary. Memorials may be directed to the Windmont and Northeast Park Christmas Lighting Funds. You can read the full obituary here
