Leathernecks Fall Short of The Mastodons

MACOMB- Fort Wayne, Ind. – Senior James Claar showcased his talents while playing against the Mastodons. Both times the teams have played each other this season, he has left with a new career high. This time he shot 100 percent from the field and the free- throw line, but it wasn’t enough unfortunately because the Leathernecks lost 75-69. 

James Claar led his team with 20 points while grabbing five rebounds. He was joined in double figures by teammates C.J. Duff, Kobe Webster, and Ben Pyle. Claar went 6- for- 6 from the floor and 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, while coming off the bench.

As the Leathernecks leading scorer, Kobe Webster started the game off hot, scoring the first eight points giving them a lead of 8-2. Later on in the game, the Leathernecks scored more points off turnovers by 22-16, however the team turned the ball over 21 times. The Leathernecks put up a fight out scoring Purdue Fort Wayne on second chance points 10-1.

It just wasn’t enough as the Mastodons eventually went on to win the game. C.J. Duff manages 970 career points and is on track to become the second Leatherneck to score 1,000 points this season. The Leathernecks are off to South Dakota next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. showdown.
