
The Western Illinois Women’s basketball team will welcome Southeast Missouri in town Tuesday (Dec. 17) at 5:30 p.m. The Leathernecks are coming off a 10-day break after having two games on the road. They are rested and ready to defend their home (Western Hall) against Southeast Missouri at 5:30 p.m.
The Leathernecks look to continue their small win streak as they earned their last win over Chicago State 88-78 to receive their first road victory on Dec. 7. Junior Grace Gilmore led the charge with 19 points, Senior Annabel Graettinger had 15 points, and Senior Olivia Kaufmann added 16 points as well.
The history between the Leathernecks and Redhawks has always been challenging. The Leathernecks are up 3-2 in the series between the Redhawks dating back since Dec. 3, 2014, in a 79-58 win. Their most recent game on Nov 20. 2018, the Leathernecks loss 71-81 on the road. This upcoming game will settle if the Leathernecks let the Redhawks tie them in the history series 3-3.
Western Illinois will also conclude non-league play at the Compass Challenge at Northern Illinois starting on Thursday (Dec. 19) versus Southern Illinois. The tournament features all four directional Illinois institutions.
