MACOMB, IL – The Macomb Balloon Rally has announced it will be celebrating its 35th Anniversary with a 2-day event on September 9th and 10th, weather permitting.
This year’s rally will feature a pirate theme, and features twenty-two hot air balloons flown by pilots from across Illinois.
The rally will kick off on Friday, September 9th at 5:30 p.m. at Vince Grady Field on the WIU campus with a performance from WIU’s Jazz Studio Orchestra. Immediately following the performance, there will be a mass ascension balloon launch.
On Saturday the hot air balloons will take to the sky at 6:45 a.m., attempting to hit targets that have been place around Macomb, and again at 6 p.m. for another competitive flight. Following their landing, the pilots will set up their balloons in rows on Vince Grady Field and light up their balloons against the night sky beginning at 7:30 p.m.
During the evening flight and glow, there will be a performance by The Leftovers on Vince Grady Field.
