Regional Media Macomb Major Programming and Staff Expansion
Regional Media, parent company of radio stations and multimedia news and sports websites in Iowa, Illinois, and Hawaii, announced today that it has made a major improvement and investment in localized radio in Macomb Illinois.
Starting Monday February 3rd, Regional Media will begin a series of new local programs on its newstalk station MacombNewsNow 104.7 WLMD. AM Macomb, a high energy community-based talk show with Bill Schmalfeldt will feature in depth conversations and important issues facing Macomb and the surrounding area. The show will feature expansive local news and weather, sports, business news, agriculture news, obituaries, and many other community focused segments. During the show, just 15 minutes before 9AM, the Macomb Meeting will be featured. A segment that will feature local guests daily. In the first week, Mayor Mike Inman, Macomb Police Chief Curt Barker, Macomb Fire Chief Rick Driskell, and Executive Director of Macomb Park District Rachael Lenz have been slated to appear. AM Macomb will air from 6:30A-9:30A each weekday.
Schmalfeldt, A 43-year award winning broadcasting veteran, relocated to Macomb from Wisconsin last month, and looks forward to bringing a unique blend of gravitas and humor to AM Macomb "I once applied for a TV news job," Schmalfeldt said. "Although they didn't hire me, they were very encouraging, suggesting that my face was perfect for a broadcasting career — in radio. I hope you'll make our programming a part of your day!” As part of the programming change, PM Macomb will air from Noon to 12:45P each weekday. Similar to AM Macomb, this hour will focus on developing and expansive news, breaking information, and events of the day.
“After a long management career working with disabled adults, I chose to come to Regional Media because of the impact I can have on the community through our products. The launch of AM Macomb will further impact our community!” Said Tricia Taylor, who was recently named the Group Manager.
As part of the ongoing efforts to bring this programming to the market, Regional Media has invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in new studio and transmitting equipment at the Jackson Street studio location.
Regional Media President Fletcher Ford went on to say “We have been working to build a local talk-based Macomb radio station for some time, and seeing it finally launch is absolutely amazing! The goal of our company was not only to launch AM Macomb, but also to bring someone into Macomb that can mentor young broadcasters as they look to join our industry.”
Radio remains at its strongest level yet. As the largest state wide independently owned broadcaster, Regional Media’s commitment is unmatched. The most recent Nielsen Total Audience report (September 2019) put radios reach at 92%, higher than any other medium.
