Charles E. Ogle, 97, of Bushnell, Illinois passed away at 12:25 PM Saturday June 10, 2023 at Courtyard Estates of Bushnell with his daughter by his side. He was born April 10, 1926 in rural Avon, IL to John and Esther (Moore) Ogle. He married Rosa Lee Dimmitt on June 1, 1947 in Bushnell, IL. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2016.
Surviving is one daughter Elizabeth (Jack) Porter of Lasalle, IL; three grandchildren, Christopher Jennings, Christina (Ian) Davis, Erica (Billy) Barton, three great-grandchildren, two brothers, Robert Ogle of Bushnell, IL; David Ogle of Macomb, IL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Richard Ogle, daughter, Beverly Naslund and two granddaughters, Nora and Sarah Jennings.
Charlie was a lifelong farmer and had a tiling business for years. He was a proud member of the Bushnell VFW and American Legion. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Hambleton during World War II. On September 2, 1945 the Japanese surrendered and the USS Hambleton was the second ship to enter Tokyo Bay. He was able to observe the signing of the Peace Treaty from his ship.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am Tuesday June 13, 2023 at the Martin-Hollis Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 AM Tuesday June 13, 2023 at the Bushnell Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Bushnell VFW Post 1422.
