Donan E. “Don” Clarke, 75, of Galva, died at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, August 20, 2023 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva with Pastor Bob Curry officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Inurnment will follow at Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Galva American Legion as a way to honor Don’s many Sunday morning breakfasts with friends.

He was born June 17, 1948 in Kewanee, the son Lawrence and Lucille (O’Connor) Clarke. He married Margaret Sue Garrison on December 15, 1984 in Galva and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2012. Survivors include his daughter, Mandy (Benson) (Phil) Cooley of Sheridan, IN, a brother, Larry (Kathy) Clarke of Aurora, IL, two grandchildren, Kade and Kooper Cooley and several nieces and nephews; Lisa (Larry) Rivard, Bobby Clarke, Nora (Clarke) Hooper, Suzanne (Carroll) (Matt) Wilson, John (Natalie) Carroll, Bridget (Carroll) Rickard, Marty (Sheri) Clarke, Phil (Jen) Clarke and Carla Nelson. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bill and Bobby and a sister, Barb Carroll.

Don graduated from Kewanee High School in 1966 and had attended Black Hawk East. He served his country in U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict having been deployed to Germany. He was Honorably Discharged in 1971. He had worked for Prudential Insurance and had drove a truck for River Valley Cooperative. In his early years he was a machine operator for the Hyster Company, Pearson’s in Galva and Universal Boiler.

In his early years he was of the Catholic faith and most recently was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Kewanee. Don was a people person who thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people from Galva and Kewanee. He also enjoyed gardening, coin collecting and bird watching. He especially loved his family and the time spent with his grandsons.
