Mary L. Wolfmeyer, 79, of Macomb, Illinois passed away at 7:00 AM Thursday July 28, 2022 peacefully at home with her husband by her side. She was born February 24, 1943 in Carthage, MO to Loren and Irene (Martin) Wilson. She married Lynn J. Wolfmeyer August 17, 1969 in North Kansas City, MO. He survives.
Also surviving are two children, Mary Anne Wolfmeyer of Columbia, MO; Mark Wolfmeyer of Washington, IL; four grandchildren, Jacob Andrew, Lauren Marie, Rachel Anne and Lucas Richard Wolfmeyer; one sister Susan (Terry) Hardesty of Oronogo, MO.
Mary graduated from Joplin High School in 1961 and then received an associate degree from Joplin Community College. She continued her education earning a BS in Education from Southwest Missouri State and her Master of Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia. Mary later received Special Education certification from Western Illinois University. Mary was an Educator for more than 30 years; it was who she was and how she identified. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and experience with the children she taught. Mary taught 4 years in North Kansas City, MO; 2 years in Industry, IL; 2 years in Cushing, OK; one years at St. Paul School in Macomb, IL and she taught in the Macomb Schools for 24 years.
Mary and Lynn loved traveling especially after their retirement. Together they visited all 50 States, traveled across 5 Continents, and visited numerous countries making memories of a lifetime. She was also a very active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mary also loved visiting with her grandchildren, attending and following their numerous activities.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday August 3, 2022 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Burdick officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday August 2, 2022 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to the Lynn and Mary Wolfmeyer Mathematics Scholarship/WIU Foundation.
