People evacuated as Bass River wildfires continue

People have been ordered to evacute a campground as firefighterds continue to battle a fire in the Bass River State Forest. The blaze has consumed at least 5,000 acres and was reported as 50% contained at around 5 p.m. Thursday. Several roads in the affected area were closed and people staying at the Timberline Campground were ordered to evacuate Thursday. Six structures were threatened at one point but a backfiring operation has been employed by firefighting crews. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service reported no structures in danger at the time of the late-afternoon report yesterday.
