Peru Illinois Police Department Receive IL State Police Grant for Firearm Enforcement

The Peru Police Department was among 32 to departments in the state of Illinois to receive a portion a $2 million dollar grant from the Illinois State Police. The grant is intended to aid Police Departments in the area of Firearm Enforcement. WZOE and RegionalMediaNews.com reached out to Peru Police Chief Bob Pyszka who said the grant money will promote Firearm Owner Identification Card compliance by paying officers’ salaries and overtime to hold subjects accountable for a suspended or revoked card. “If you do not have a valid FOID card, you cannot go and purchase firearms legally,” Pyszka said. “I am very hopeful this (grant) will assist us, other agencies and the general public be a much safer place.”
