PHS Advances and BV Ends Season In Regional Openers

The Princeton Tigers advanced and the Bureau Valley Storm had their season come to a close on the opening night of the IVC Regional in Chillicothe.

 

In the first game Monday night, Princeton rallied from an early double-digit deficit to top the Eureka Hornets 70-67 in overtime.  The 7th seeded Tigers fell behind 21-9 before finishing the first quarter with a 9-2 run to cut the Hornets lead to 23-18.  PHS got to within 3 points of Eureka twice in the second quarter before the half ended with the Hornets on top 41-34.  Jamie Reinhardt scored 17 of the Tigers 34 first half points.

 

A Wyatt Davis bucket midway through the third quarter gave Princeton its first lead of the game at 42-41.  The Tigers held the lead 49-46 after three quarters.  PHS took its largest lead of the game at 59-52 in the fourth quarter but Eureka rallied and forced overtime on a Trevor Heffren hoop with 44 seconds left in regulation.  The Tigers led most of the extra period and two Reinhardt free throws with 17 seconds left capped the scoring.

 

Reinhardt scored a game-high 30 points for the Tigers while Wyatt Davis added 14 points and Liam Duffin 11.  PHS went 13 of 19 from the free throw line.  Princeton improved to 15-14 and advanced to Tuesday night's regional semifinal against the Kewanee Boilermakers.  The Hornets, who were led by Nathaniel Leman's 22 points, had their season end with a record of 9-17.

In the nightcap, the Bureau Valley Storm played powerful Fieldcrest tough early but the Knights used a huge third quarter to pull away for the 76-42 win.  BV took a 14-10 lead in the second quarter but trailed 31-21 at halftime.  Fieldcrest outscored the Storm 30-6 in the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter was played under the continuous clock rule.  BV was led in scoring by Dalton Dean's 16  points.  The Storm finished their season with a 6-24 record.  Fieldcrest got 15 points from Brice Nordstrom and advanced to Wednesday's semifinal matchup with regional host Chillicothe IVC.
