The state says tax revenue from legal marijuana sales is outpacing expectations. Through the month of January the state collected over $10 million in revenue. Of the 10 million, $7 million is part of the cannabis tax and $3 million is from sales taxes. A big portion of the 7 million will be reinvested in communities hit by the war on drugs and sales taxes will be split between the state’s general revenue fund and local governments. Governor JB Pritzker says revenue outpacing predictions will benefit the state.
The state reports that $39 million of pot sales were made at stores in January.
