Governor Pritzker is touting a proposed budget that will begin to restore a rainy day fund for state government and adds more than $40 million in tax revenue from legalized marijuana sales. Pritzker says spending will be on track to increase in some of areas if voters choose to pass a constitutional amendment to change Illinois from a flat tax state to one that has a graduated income tax. And according to Pritzker more than a billion and half dollars of state spending depends on the outcome of the vote in November.

Many Republicans are upset that the Governor used the address to push for a tax increase when they say revenues are on rise because of a good economy and low unemployment rate. Among those Republicans was State Representative Tony McCombie who praised the Governor's speech before talking about taxes… 

State Representative Ryan Spain of Peoria echoed McCombie criticisms of the Governor's approach to taxes… 

The next step is negotiations over the Governor's budget priorities.
