The star-studded concert that Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood has curated saluting his band’s original frontman, singer/guitarist Peter Green, is taking place tonight, February 25, at the London Palladium.
The show’s already-impressive lineup recently was expanded to include The Who‘s Pete Townshend, Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett, Oasis‘ Noel Gallagher and current Fleetwood Mac singer/guitarist Neil Finn. Stars previously announced include Pink Floyd‘s David Gilmour, Aerosmith‘s Steven Tyler, ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons, Christine McVie, ex-Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman and U.K. blues legend John Mayall.
Fleetwood apparently has big plans to document the event with a concert film and box set. According to the recently launched website, MickFleetwoodandFriends.com, the film — titled Mick Fleetwood & Friends Celebrate the Music of Peter Green — will be shown in select theaters in the U.K., Ireland and Europe on June 2 and June 7. Tickets for the screenings can be purchased at CinemaLive.com.
Fans also can pre-order a super-deluxe box set at the website that will feature four vinyl LPs, two CDs, a Blu-ray disc and a book.
Famed producer Glyn Johns will serve as the executive sound producer for the concert.
You can check out a video featuring footage from the rehearsals for the concert now on YouTube. The minute-long clip includes glimpses of Fleetwood, Gilmour, Gibbons, Tyler, McVie, Hammett, Townshend, Mayall, Jonny Lang, and Who touring drummer Zak Starkey.
Fleetwood said in a statement about the event, “The concert is a celebration of those early blues days where we all began, and it’s important to recognize the profound impact Peter and the early Fleetwood Mac had on the world of music. Peter was my greatest mentor and it gives me such joy to pay tribute to his incredible talent.”
