While income taxes aren’t due until April 30, the state already is warning filers to expect late refunds.
The state Department of Revenue says that taxpayers shouldn’t expect any anticipated refunds until about 30 to 45 days after their taxes are filed.
Iowa has experienced similar delays in recent years, the result of increased security after the state received more than 10,000 fraudulent returns in 2016.
The Department of Revenue also has released some guidance for taxpayers regarding the state’s noncompliance with the federal “Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2019.”
