Update – Second Fatal Crash This Week Closes Highway 6 in Rural Colona

UPDATE – Mason Shea has been identified as the 35 year old Male that dies in the Ford Mustang

UPDATE – A 1995 Black Ford Mustang, traveling westbound, driven by a 35 year old male of Rock Island crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2022 white Ford F-250 driven by 47 year old Nathan Christopherson of moline head-on. Nathan Christopherson was uninjured. The 35 year old male occupant of the Ford Mustang was declared deceased on scene. His identity is pending next of kin notification. The Illinois State Police are conducting the accident reconstruction

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 7 confirmed that US Highway 6 is closed for a second fatal crash this week, 78 year old Raymond Rankin died in a head-on crash in the same area on Monday.  ISP District 7 responded to a two vehicle head-on accident on Highway 6 by 200 E street around 6:34 AM on Friday, August 5, 2022.  ISP District 7 said a vehicle traveling westbound on US Highway 6 crossed the center line and struck a vehicle traveling eastbound.  One person was pronounced dead at the scene.  The identities of the accident victims have not been released.  US Highway 6 will be closed for an extended amount of time for an accident investigation.  No further information is available at this time.  UPDATE: All lanes reopened at 11:47 AM.

Genesis Ambulance Service, Colona Fire Department, Coal Valley Fire Department, Colona Police Officers, Henry County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Illinois State Police responded to the scene.
