Van Halen bassist Wolfgang Van Halen is nearing completion on his debut solo album, which will be released as part of a new partnership with the Explorer1 Music Group label.

According to a post on, the 28-year-old son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and actress Valerie Bertinelli is “in the final stages of writing and recording…a collection of diverse material.”

Wolfgang is working on the project at his dad’s 5150 Studios in Los Angeles with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, whose previous credits include albums by Slash, Alter Bridge, Tremonti, Sevendust and Chevelle. Wolfgang was a member of Tremonti from 2012 to 2016; he’s been Van Halen’s bassist since that band re-formed in 2007 with original frontman David Lee Roth, although the group has been inactive since 2015.

An announcement posted by reports that Wolfgang’s album is “a collection of diverse material…original songs ranging from haunting ballads to stomping rock classics, on which [Van Halen] recorded all the instruments and vocals himself.”

“It’s been a long time coming and I can’t wait for everyone to hear what I’ve been working on,” Wolf says in a statement.

Explorer1 Music Group CEO Paul Woolnough adds about the project, “While I knew it was going to be something special, when I was first invited to the studio, nothing prepared me for the quality, uniqueness and maturity of the songs that blasted out of the monitors. It’s an absolute honor to be working with Wolfgang and his team and being part of the next chapter in the Van Halen family legacy.”

No word yet on a title or release date for the album.
