The Whiteside County Airport recently completed a lighting conversion of inefficient and high energy consuming lights in the parking lots, driveway, exterior building and aircraft ramp lights to energy efficient LEDs. The airport utilized a program through ComEd which reimbursed the airport for about one third of the costs associated with the conversion.
The airport board reviewed program details and utility cost savings of the LEDs over the outdated lighting. After an analysis through ComEd’s program, the payback on the investment in LED lighting was only two years. The airport board unanimously voted to have the work completed on the airport. Airport Manager, Darin Heffelfinger, coordinated the project with ComEd and a local electrical contractor. During the process, several electrical issues were also repaired or remediated. Work on the LED conversion was completed earlier this month.
