It was hot today at Abilities Plus because of the first-ever chili cook-off for staff members. Staff members were invited to bring in their best chili and show off their cooking skills to the judges and each other. Staff members were asked to sample each chili and then vote for their favorite. A total of 10 staff members participated in the 1st annual chili cook-off. Additionally, four “celebrity judges” from the community were invited to spend their lunch taste-testing chili and voting for their favorite. Mike Miler (Edward Jones and Abilities Plus Board Member), Deputy Chief Michael Minx (Kewanee Police Department), Gary Bradley (Kewanee City Manager) and Bennett Riber (Kewanee Fire Department) volunteered to be the celebrity judges. The celebrity judges chose Veronica Plyle’s “The OG” chili as the winner and the staff chose Amy Lewis’s “Beans & Wieners” chili as the winner.
