
The Leathernecks fall to Youngtown State on Saturday 59-14. Big plays troubled Western in the first quarter, as the Penguins held them to a 28-7 lead.
The game was tied at 7-all with 10:29 remaining on the clock after captains Connor Sampson and Clint Ratkovich hooked up a 33-yard scoring reception. Both players accounted for the only leatherneck touchdowns, as a four-yard pass capped a nine-play which led to a 73-yard drive with 12:43 minutes remaining.
The Leathernecks received another chance of redemption when sophomore Colton Folliard forced a fumble recovery in the fourth. Colton recovered the ball at Western's 47-yard line, as his team was able to drive to the red zone, but couldn’t capitalize scoring against Youngtown’s defense. As a team, WIU had a total of 260 yards while YSU had a total of 524 yards during the game. The Leathernecks remained scoreless in the second & third quarter while YSU scored in every quarter.
