The crime log incidents posted may not match the crime statistics as reported in the Annual Campus Security and Fire Safety Report per the federal Clery Act, as the crime log is compiled using the Illinois Crimes Code and the crime statistics are required by law to be compiled using the Federal Uniformed Crime Reporting definitions.
According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, e.g. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition, if any of the following conditions apply. Disclosure is prohibited: by law; would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim; would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual; would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection; or would result in the destruction of evidence.
On Sept. 4 at 3:31 a.m. a female student reported to OPS that she had been sexually assaulted by a non-student known to her in a residence hall room.
On Sept. 4 at 3:51 a.m. Michael Dukes, 20, of 618 Thompson, and another WIU student (age 17), received a notice to appear Oct. 11 for a city ordinance violation for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor in the Thompson Hall parking lot.
On Sept. 4 at 4:05 a.m. OPS and the Macomb Fire Department were called to Grote Hall for a fire alarm in the first floor south lobby. It was determined the alarm was activated when someone discharged a fire extinguisher. There was no fire, nor smoke, present. Clean-up and extinguisher recharge costs are estimated at $150. The incident is under investigation.
On Sept. 6, at 7:09 p.m. OPS and the Macomb Fire Department responded to a fire alarm in Thompson Hall. The alarm was activated by a small grease fire. No damage estimate was available and no injuries were reported.
