The Western Illinois Women’s Basketball team will battle against Southern Illinois on the road on Thursday (Dec 19) at 4:30 p.m. The Leathernecks are quite impressive this season as they have an overall record of 6-5. They’re on a 2 game win streak after beating Southeast Missouri (Dec 7) and Chicago State (Dec 17). The Leathernecks will push for their 3rd straight win in DeKalb against the Salukis as they carry their momentum from their previous 2 wins.
The Leathernecks will be faced with a challenge as they are just 1-4 when it comes to playing games on the road. WIU hasn't been matched up against SIU since March 17, 2016, which ended in a Leatherneck win with a score of 99-97. Their very first matchup in 11/1/2006 also ended in a Leatherneck win with a score of 70-68. Even though both games were close, the Leathernecks are 2-0 against Southern Illinois.
Years later these teams are scheduled to play once again. The Leathernecks made history by hitting a total of 17 three-pointers in a game against Southeast Missouri. WIU has struggled on the road this season thus far, so this game determines if they break their bad luck on the road.
